Bitcoin slips below $80,000 ahead of Fed decision as Asian stocks rebound

Bitcoin slips below $80,000 as traders await Wednesday’s Fed decision and signals on future rate moves.

Bitcoin slips below $80,000 on Tuesday, October 27, as investors wait for the Federal Reserve’s next interest-rate decision despite a recovery in Asian equities.

CoinMarketCap’sdata showed Bitcoin (BTC) trading around $79,600, down roughly 0.5% over 24 hours at the time of writing.

Ethereum (ETH) traded around $2,300, while XRP hovered around $1.30.

Monday’s volatile session leaves BTC below the $80,000 threshold. CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin steadied near $80,400 after dipping to around $79,300 during the Asian morning hours on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Fed outlook takes center stage

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, October 27, and Wednesday, October 28, 2026, with its policy decision set to be announced at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday.

According to the Fed’s calendar, Chair Kevin Warsh’s press conference follows at 2:30 p.m.

Investors broadly expect rates to remain unchanged after September’s increase. However, the policy statement and upcoming press conference could shape expectations for further tightening before the year ends.

This week, all eyes are on the Fed meeting, and it already seems like investors are de-risking as Bitcoin falls below the $80k mark. While the Fed probably won’t change rates this week, we’re watching how strongly the chair hints at a December hike — that’s what matters for crypto, said Jeff Mei, chief operating officer at crypto exchange BTSE.

Higher borrowing costs can weaken demand for digital assets. Mei also warned that an aggressive Fed tone could mean less liquidity for cryptocurrencies and stocks.

Asian stock rally offers limited relief

South Korea’s Kospi rose more than 3.9%, Japan’s Nikkei gained 1.9%, and MSCI’s Asia-Pacific index excluding Japan increased 0.9%, Reuters reported Tuesday.

Renewed enthusiasm for artificial intelligence helped lift equities ahead of leading technology gains.

After October’s meeting, the next policy meeting is scheduled for December 8-9.

This makes Wednesday’s meeting significant even if officials leave rates unchanged.
