Ripple has secured final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish Ripple National Trust Bank (RNTB).
This will give the company a federally supervised platform for stablecoin reserve management and institutional crypto custody, according to its announcement.
“This gives Ripple a federally supervised platform to support $RLUSD and provide digital asset custody to enterprises,” said Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
Ripple applied for the charter in July 2025 and was granted conditional approval by the OCC on December 12, 2025.
The initial approval required final authorization before the bank could commence business.

What Ripple Bank will do
The RNTB is authorized to manage segregated reserves backing Ripple USD (RLUSD), act as collateral trustee for token holders, and provide fiduciary digital asset custody.
The custody role involves holding clients’ assets under duties to act in their interests.
RLUSD will continue to be issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company (SCTC), which is regulated by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS).
Federal supervision will therefore cover the new bank’s activities alongside existing state oversight of the issuer.
For years, we’ve said crypto and banks work better together. Final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank is what that looks like in practice,” said Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse. “We’ve spent over a decade building regulated financial infrastructure that institutions can actually use at scale. A national trust charter gives us an even stronger foundation for RLUSD and the institutional products we’re building across payments, custody, and capital markets.
The charter comes with a specific scope. The OCC’s original decision limited operations to trust company activities and related services and stated that the bank would not be an insured depository institution.
RLUSD reaches $2.5 billion
Launched in December 2024, RLUSD has grown to a $2.5 billion market cap.
It is being used across Ripple’s payments infrastructure and as collateral on Ripple Prime.
The stablecoin is backed by U.S. dollar deposits, U.S. government securities, and other cash equivalents.
BNY serves as its primary reserve custodian, while Ripple publishes monthly independent third-party attestations covering supply and reserves.
