Standard Chartered’s Singapore unit announced plans on October 8 to offer custody for crypto assets, stablecoins, and tokenized real-world assets, as it continues to expand its crypto-related services.
In a statement released Thursday, the bank said that the service will target institutional clients and accredited investor corporate clients, subject to regulatory requirements. T
“This marks a significant milestone as we prepare to bring our digital asset custody capabilities to clients in Singapore. It also reinforces our commitment to supporting the development of a secure and well-regulated digital asset ecosystem in the market,” said Patrick Lee, CEO, Singapore and CEO, ASEAN & South Asia, Standard Chartered.
The bank said the move responds to growing demand for regulated digital asset safekeeping. It builds on custody operations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Luxembourg, and Hong Kong.

Connecting Custody and Tokenization
The planned custody service will complement the Bank’s broader Financing and Securities Services capabilities, combining traditional asset servicing, tokenization, and digital asset custody.
“This will enable the Bank to expand its support of institutional clients across wider asset lifecycles – from safeguarding and servicing traditional assets today, to tokenising and safeguarding digital assets within an institutional-grade custody framework – through a connected global proposition,” the bank said.
Lee also said that the robust infrastructure would be essential for safeguarding and servicing tokenized assets at institutional scale.
The announcement outlines a planned offering rather than confirming that clients can already use the service.
Global Custody Expansion
The expansion follows Standard Chartered’s move to bring more of its crypto custody operations in-house. In September 2024, the Bank launched its UAE digital asset custody service, initially supporting Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether. Brevan Howard Digital was its first client.
In September 2026, the Bank expanded its LMAX Group partnership to provide digital asset custody through its regulated entities in Luxembourg and Dubai.
In May 2026, Standard Chartered announced that an offer to acquire Zodia Custody’s custody business had been accepted, with completion subject to approvals and closing conditions.
The proposed transaction would integrate Zodia’s custody activities into the Bank’s Financing and Securities Services division. This would further consolidate its digital asset custody business.
