Key Takeaways

  • Coinbase-backed Stand With Crypto made its first Senate endorsements: Sen. Jon Husted (Ohio) and Senate candidates Ashley Hinson of Iowa and Chris Pappas of New Hampshire.
  • The move follows the Senate’s failure to advance the Clarity Act on September 15, amid Democratic concerns over ethics provisions and President Donald Trump’s crypto interests.
  • The group is also increasing advertising spending in six House races, backing candidates who previously voted for the Clarity Act in the House.

Stand With Crypto, the Coinbase-backed advocacy group, has made its first round of Senate endorsements since the Clarity Act stalled, shifting its focus from legislative efforts to the November midterm elections, The Block reported.

On September 30, 2026, the group said it would back Republican Sen. Jon Husted in Ohio, along with Senate candidates Ashley Hinson in Iowa and Chris Pappas in New Hampshire. Husted faces former Sen. Sherrod Brown, who previously chaired the Senate Banking Committee and has taken a skeptical approach to crypto policy.

In August, the group said it would announce its Senate endorsements closer to Election Day.

Why Now

On September 15, 2026, the Senate failed to advance the Clarity Act in a procedural vote. The bill would establish a federal regulatory framework for the crypto industry.

Democrats raised concerns that the bill did not do enough to address President Donald Trump’s crypto interests and potential conflicts of interest.

“Following the Senate’s recent failure to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, Stand With Crypto’s more than three million advocates are shifting their energy and focus fully to ensuring we have pro-crypto champions in office who will carry forward our fight for clear rules of the road,” said Mason Lynaugh, executive director of Stand With Crypto.

The group has also updated its candidate scorecard to reflect lawmakers’ September 15 Clarity Act votes.

Crypto Spending in Ohio

In 2024, Stand With Crypto and the broader crypto industry groups expanded their political activity, while crypto-focused super PACs spent millions of dollars in congressional races.

One pro-crypto PAC, Fairshake, committed about $12 million in Ohio to back Republican Bernie Moreno, who went on to unseat Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown.

Fairshake also backed Democrats Sens. Ruben Gallego and Elissa Slotkin in 2024, and both voted against the Clarity Act this month, The Block reported.

House Push Continues

Stand With Crypto also endorsed additional House candidates after backing 32 candidates last month. Those include Rep. Shomari Figures(D-Ala.) and Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa).

The group also said that it would increase advertising spending in six House races, including those involving Democratic Rep. Don Davis and Republican Rep. Bryan Steil.

All of these newly endorsed candidates voted for the Clarity Act when the bill passed the House on July 17, 2025.

“Ahead of Election Day, Stand With Crypto is ensuring that Crypto Voters — a highly motivated,  heterogeneous block of voters committed to the advancement of policies like market structure — have the tools they need to make informed decisions at the polls,” Lynaugh said.
