Ripple to Acquire Australian Financial Services License
Ripple has announced that it plans to acquire an Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) very soon. The firm will obtain the license through the proposed acquisition of BC Payments Australia Pty Ltd, a move aimed at strengthening its payments operations in Australia. The acquisition would enable Ripple to offer its full payments platform in the country.
The integrated system would cover customer onboarding, regulatory compliance, foreign exchange, funding, payouts, and liquidity management through a single integration.
Ripple Expands Locally
According to Ripple, several Australian businesses already use Ripple Payments. These businesses include Hai Ha Money Transfer, Caleb & Brown, Stables, Independent Reserve, and Plash Payments. Fiona Murray, Managing Director for Asia-Pacific, said in a statement, “Australia is a key market for Ripple, and an AFSL strengthens our ability to scale Ripple Payments across the region.”
The announcement comes as Ripple reported strong growth in Asia-Pacific. The company said its payment volume in the region nearly doubled year-on-year in 2025, though it did not disclose exact figures. The growth adds to the $100 billion in total processed volume Ripple revealed last week as it introduced new services, including managed custody, virtual account collections, and stablecoin settlement across 60 markets.
Ripple also confirmed its participation in Project Acacia, an initiative led by the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Digital Finance Cooperative Research to explore digital asset infrastructure.
