Key Takeaways

  • Hong Kong launched a four-year euro-denominated digital green bond, with final price guidance set at 11 basis points above the mid-swap benchmark.
  • The bond will use HSBC’s Orion digital platform and clear through the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s Central Moneymarkets Unit.
  • Proceeds will finance or refinance eligible environmental projects under Hong Kong’s Green Bond Framework.

Hong Kong’s government has launched a benchmark-sized, four-year euro digital green bond, marking another step in its push to bring traditional debt markets onto digital infrastructure, Reuters reported.

The government set the final price guidance at 11 basis points, or 0.11 percentage points, above the relevant euro mid-swap rate, a benchmark used to price bonds.

The bond is scheduled to settle on Tuesday and will pay fixed interest twice a year. Reuters’ report did not disclose the final issue size or coupon rate.

HSBC Orion to Support Digital Issuance

The bond will use HSBC’s Orion platform to record ownership on a distributed ledger. The bond will clear and settle through the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s Central Moneymarkets Unit (CMU), which is linked to international settlement systems Euroclear and Clearstream.

The links allow investors to access the digital bond through established settlement systems.

The government plans to list the bond on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Proceeds will finance or refinance eligible environmental projects under the government’s Green Bond Framework.

Hong Kong Expands Tokenized Bond Push

The offering builds on Hong Kong’s broader effort to develop a digital bond market. On June 11, 2026, the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation announced an approximately HK$12 billion digital bond offering using HSBC Orion.

In November 2025, Hong Kong priced a €300 million four-year digital green bond tranche as part of a broader multicurrency offering.

The latest digital bond issuance shows how tokenization is moving beyond crypto-native markets and deeper into government debt and institutional finance.
