Ethereum Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin Withdraws $43 Million in Ether
Ethereum Co-founder Vitalik Buterin has withdrawn $43 million worth of Ether (ETH). The news comes as the Ethereum Foundation (EF) prepares for a period of “mild austerity” to sustain long-term development while pursuing an aggressive scaling roadmap. In a post made on X.com, Buterin said he withdrew 16,384 ETH valued at roughly $43 million to help fund efforts to build an open-source, secure, and verifiable “full-stack” of software and hardware.
Ether was trading around $2,720 on Tuesday, which was well below its October high of nearly $4,831, during a broader pullback in crypto markets.

Buterin Outlines Expansion Plans
Buterin emphasized that the initiative extends beyond Ethereum, with potential applications across communications, governance, secure hardware, operating systems, and finance. He also highlighted emerging areas such as biotechnology, public health, and privacy-focused tools, including encrypted messaging and local-first software.
While the Ethereum Foundation will continue to prioritize core blockchain development, Buterin said its focus will increasingly center on “Ethereum for people who need it.” He stressed upon focusing on decentralization, privacy, security, and self-sovereignty over corporate adoption.
Buterin added that he is exploring decentralized staking strategies that could generate additional funding through staking rewards. According to blockchain analytics firm Arkham, the Ethereum Foundation currently holds about $558 million in crypto assets, while Buterin’s personal holdings total approximately $666 million.
